2-10-13 PART TIME PUNKS
MY BLOODY VALENTINE NITE W/ COSMONAUTS
TENNIS SYSTEM+MOONBEAMS+SLOWNESS
Don't miss Part Time Punks' 4th annual tribute to MY BLOODY VALENTINE! Featuring performances by 4 amazing new-ish bands all inspired by the dreamy mayhem of MBV: COSMONAUTS, TENNIS SYSTEM, MOONBEAMS & SLOWNESS...

All of whom will be performing at least a couple MBV covers (maybe more). Plus yer DJ/Host will be spinning MBV vinyl all nite long, spanning the band's entire career, from "Geek" to "Loveless" to the brand-new record "M B V" (!), plus the weird & wonderful Kevin Shields' produced/collaborations, plus loads of MBV-inspired shoegaze/dreampop all nite long...\

Doors open at 9PM and anyone 18+ is welcome!

Birthed from the same industrial mayhem that spawned Christian Death, Agent Orange and Adolescents, COSMONAUTS sound more like the spawn of Southampton, UK. Their layered laser-guided melodies, prodding insistently at the brain stem like first-wave Spacemen 3 or "Perfect Needle"-era Telescopes. Other reviewers have tried filing them under garage or psychedelia. But other reviewers are shit. This is melodic mayhem. Velvets-inspired, certainly. But the kind that would make Kevin Shields proud.

Sharing their namesake with a song by predecessor noise pop group The Lilys, TENNIS SYSTEM are keeping the legacies of Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, and the Jesus and Mary Chain alive with their expansive, catchy-as-hell pop songs. Matty Taylor and Misha Bullock are masters of loud and dirty anthems, but rising above the noise that blankets them are Taylor's beautifully sung, dreamy lyrics inspired by both love and art, from the drawings of Egon Schiele to the writing of Aldous Huxley.Teenagers, the gr up's second LP, was released by Kill/Hurt in December of 2011.

Self-described as, ?“hopeless, charming, noise-pop devotees you can introduce to your parents,?” California?’s Moonbeams?’ wistful melodies behind a wall of beautiful noise bring to mind the hazy yet hummable work of Flying Saucer Attack, Spacemen 3, and the home recorded lo-fi purism of the Elephant 6 Collective. Other than a mini-LP released in late 2012 by Hop Skip Jump, the band's recorded output is almost impossible to track down (a limited 7?” and 12-song CDr). But this s only the beginning. And if you saw their debut at last summer's PTP Shoegaze Fest, then you'll know why.

"SLOWNESS wields an edgier, starker, more primal style that sounds like it could be traced back to all those Kiwi bands that loved The Velvet Underground." At least, this is how The Big Takeover describes them. To this, I would further name-drop Galaxie 500, For Against, Half String, Cocteau Twins, and Spiritualized, and then yer starting to get The Big Picture.
