I feel like we've earned it to a certain extent, even though I completely personally reject it. It's a weird position to be in. That's what it means to be an artist. We're fortunate to even have a public perception of our body of work. I think people would love to be perceived at all, even incorrectly. Well its hard to generalize music when it can become so personal. I always say, genre labels are for squares. I don't really care what anybody calls us. I'm glad that you see that from hearing us play. There's just a larger frame of reference that a lot of people don't get. They're so happy to slot into their genre expectations. It's like a life style choice, that I always laugh at. Music is way to big. You could deny a part of it because your life style- how you identify. Genre terms are just so meaningless. Maybe this is changing because of the internet there's almost like a region. When I think about different kinds of music, I don't think about styles, I think about areas. I'm completely obsessed with Brazilian music and I think about how that music could only have come from Brazil. How reggae could only have come from Jamaica, or the music from New Orleans. I think we sound like California music. And that can mean anything from Neil Young to Black Flag. SO yeah it is a total personal thing and everyone should listen to what they want without worrying. It's almost like this nerdy boy thing where you have to categorize everything. I reject that notion. Tell me about Earth Dies Burning? The Earth Dies Burning that Captured Tracks put out, is my teen synth- punk band. It's really good in small doses, nobody should sit and listen to that whole record. Have you seen that video clip of us in 1982? It's on New Wave Theater which was a pubic access cable TV show that had a variety show of local LA punk rock and new wave stuff. It was hosted by Peter Ivers. NEXT
