Me being a photographer for Part Time Punks was partially formed out of animosity. But the other thing that was happening at that time was that I was getting sober and in the program there's something called being of service where you do things just to make yourself a part of without expecting any results.Why do you shoot with film? I can't get away from it. I started my career as a photographer in 1990 and my first job was being a photo assistant. My dad was a photographer too and I assisted him and we shot with 2 1/4 and 4X5, standard of the day back then. I loaded and shot film from 1990 till 2002, which is a pretty long time. The feel of the camera in my hand, the feel of opening up the back of the camera and actually putting the film in and cocking the shutter and then unwinding the film. It’s kind of like smoking, its a whole ritual. After I quit photo assisting in 2002, there was a transition time where people who were shooting with film were shooting with digital. I was just starting out and I couldn't afford the digital cameras of the time. A professional digital camera in 2002 cost $30,000. So what happened was my friend Lenny, who was a cinematographer and a film maker turned me on to motion picture short ends. He said look, this is an economical way for you to shoot film because you can take 400 feet of unused film and you can load them in your own canisters. He actually pointed me to RGB where you can buy a roll for 2 dollars, which was a recan of motion picture film. Also you can take your film there and then get which is the metal casing that the film comes in. I already knew how to bulk load so I
